Mise-en-scene

·        In terms of location the main horror location which appears in nearly all horror trailers are a church, an old abandon house, woods, a dark alley. For part of our trailer some of these locations are going to be used in order to stay in concept that this is supposed to be a horror trailer. These locations are used to build climax as they already look creepy and spooky.

For colours, normally black and red are used in order to associate with a villain or hell. Mainly black is used so this is a colour that we are going to be using a lot in our trailer as it is part of the main conventions for a horror trailer.

Lighting is one type of mise-en-scene we are going to use in our horror. This is because low key usually create a sombre, mysterious as well as dramatic and moody atmosphere which is feeling that an audience is looking for when watching a horror trailer. Low- key scenes normally have a lot of contrast, as well as the primary impact which usually come from the shadows. This represents our genre which is horror as horror trailers our normally quiet mysterious and sombre where appropriate. This also builds tension as the audience is not able to see what is really happening yet. This is a good way of attracting our target audience when producing out trailer.  Shadows and unfamiliar shapes are also used which could use for our official trailer. This is because is most horror trailer weird object or shapes are used as well with a lot of shadows in order to build the suspense.

Make-up is also a tool that is going to be important when creating out horror trailer. A lot of make-up is normally used on the person that is supposed to be evil as it is the main villain character. Make-up is used to make a character look even scarier and supernatural which is one of the aspects of a horror film. For example scary black or white eyes, messed up face, hair messed up etc. We are going to be using make-up as part of a technique to attract our target audience as people might be interesting in seeing this special effects.

 Props is pretty simple as without them there wouldn`t really be a horror trailer. This is because in nearly all of horror trailer a specific object is either use to kill or is posed. For example the common weapons that are used to kill are: knifes chainsaw, cleaver, stake, and knife. The other props that are also seen are: masks, religious symbols and symbols of death which are the aspect of a horror trailer. Even though these are seen a lot we are going to try and reduce the aspect of the weapons as we do not want to make it to violent.

Some monsters are also seen in horror genre are usually: vampires, werewolves, mummies and zombies. We were thinking about including zombies in our trailer as there is not a lot of trailer based on them which could be a way of reducing the competition with other new trailers.

Family House
As a group we decided that we were going to be filming some of the scenes in a house. This locating is going to be used to film the scenes with the family to show their home and where they live and how comfortable they are also to make it look realistic. We are going to be using Elton’s house in order to make it comfortable and easier for the actors. We won’t have any problems filming in this location as all we have to do is to ask permission to the parents and if they say no then we will have to film at Jane’s house which is big and comfortable. 

Woods
Woods are a crucial location for us as it will help us make some of our scenes scary and more on the horror bit. During our research we also found out that woods are used a lot in horror trailers. So even though we are making our own trailer we still need to have some similarities with real horror trailers. We are going to be using the woods for the scary scenes. There won’t be any issue using the woods as we are going to be using the ones outside of the school however scenes we might be filming at night we will need to be save such as taking torches, stay together as a group etc.

Town
There isn’t going to be a lot of scenes filmed with that location. However we are going to be using this location to film the parents walking Jack Grey to the doctor in order get help.

Lake
We are going to using the lake at Jane’s house in order to make some of our scenes spooky and scary. There is not going to be an issue about filming in this location as it is at Jane’s house.

Street/Dark alley
The dark alley is mainly going to be used for chasing scenes. It will give something mysterious and scary to the scene. In addition to this we want to use a alley were their is some lighting already so it will make the scene look more realistic as natural lighting will be used which will help us a lot with the horror side of our trailer.

Schizophrenic person played by Elton Urry	This is the main character, he has been having nightmares for some time now about a clown. This clown soon becomes a hallucination and tells him to hurt his family and to kill the ones he loves. But this clown isn’t his only hallucination, he also has a friend called 200 who is also a figment of his imagination, this hallucination helps Elton. The bad hallucination of the clown does horrible things and hurts people around Elton little does he know the actions that the clown makes are actually being done by himself.
Younger Brother played by Kurtis Urry	Kurt is Eltons younger brother, he is close to Elton but recently Eltons actions toward Kurt seem out of character and threatening
Mother played by Samantha Urry	This character will play Eltons mum, she will be there as the doctor diagnoses Eltons condition
Best Friend played by James Parker	One of Elton’s best friends who has been there for him since a young age, he notices a change in Elton’s mood and is worried for him, he tries to talk to him but Elton is paranoid and delusional and feels James has alternative motifs so he pushes him away

OCULUS

When you first get on OCULUS official website, this first images comes up. The colour that is used for the background is black (used to bring out the main image) which gives something scary and evil to this page and it also stays in the concept of the genre that there are trying to represent which is horror. The film title was placed not directly at the top but a bit lower and it`s also written in the bigger font in order to bring it out from the rest of the writing that is on the page. Different fonts were used to show the importance of each word. For example PARANORMAL ACTIVITY and INSIDIOUS both have the same font right after the main title which tells us that they want to attract the audience by putting on the page other film`s that they might be familiar with. The layout of the page is simple. Even if there is writing on the main image there isn't to much so the audience is still bale to see the main image clearly as well as the writing. The shot used for the background is a point of view shot. The audience is able to see what the girl is seeing in that mirror which produces tension as this might not be what they expected to this and it also gives a scary feeling as an object that is not even human has the ability to show you these kind of images.

The main image that they used is very good as you can see clearly that this is horror. This could attract the audience as the image shows that this film is interesting and might give them the sensation that they are looking for in a horror film.

This is just a screenshot of the first page that is used for the introduction but they kind of played like a film so the images keep changing and so does the words that are at the top on the left side of this page. Sentences are given such as “An unrelenting nightmare” and then under those sentences, they give you websites where you can read about this specific part of the film. Using these kind of words creates exigent among the audience as they can't wait to see what they mean by an 'Unrelenting nightmare, and it also creates curiosity among the audience and so when the film comes out they would want to go and see it straight away. This is interesting as it get the audience involved in the understanding of the film by having good articles about it. The colours used are a lighter as the scenes that are playing where taken from the trailer itself. The audience is also able to visit there Facebook, Twitter page etc. by clicking on one of the icons at the bottom right of the page.

The main image is a mirror and it has been use on all the pages which tell us that this object plays a major part in the movies.

Throughout the whole website. There is soundtrack music playing which add something extra to the website. It gives suspense and it feels like a mystery. The music is slow and it gets louder as it goes which is good as increases the suspense and make the website look even scarier and spooky. This mean that they are keeping up the genre which is horror by adding slow, scary music in the background.

This is oculus official trailer. There is not much to say on this page as it is just the trailer. However this is a good idea for marketing their film before its released as it gives the audience an idea of what the story is about but it also increases curiosity as they might want to know more what is going to happen next.

On this page a brief introduction on each character is given. When you click on a character’s name the background picture changes every time to that characters descriptions. All of the pictures have dark lighting which gives something dark and scary to the page even though its only the personal details of the cast. It matches with the other websites pages so the audience is not confused.  In addition to this close/mid shots were used for each picture in order to give a clear visual of their face expression which is scared or scary.

This is Oculus tumblr official page. As you can see the image for the background is the same as the one that was used right at the beginning of the website. So all the pages kind of link together. On this page they show you that it is now available on Digital HD and Blu-Ray which is a good way of getting people to buy it and watch it at home as some prefer to watch films at home rather than in the cinema. If you scroll down you are able to see other thing such as:
